DC Universe Online has launched its much-anticipated “Update 3.” It brought some much-needed updates but also some not-needed headaches. Though update 3 isn’t as grand scale as Update 2 was, there are some key features that improve the game. With “Update 3”, DCUO has added 2 new hard alerts (League of Assassin’s Stronghold & Oolong Island); they are the most challenging alerts on DCUO and the most fun. I’ve been with DCUO since Beta. I’ve seen the evolution of DCUO, spending hundreds of hours grinding the same areas, which makes the game become a bit stale. With the addition of new areas, DCUO resets, and it’s like starting fresh – making it fun. With the new additions (League of Assassin’s Stronghold & Oolong Island), players are required to have Tier 2 armor in order to survive. These new alerts provide marks of distinction, which where only available through raids, daily alerts, and daily duos.
Old Gotham Sewers (Two Face’s Daily Mission) has been added as a duo; it serves as the most fun duo to date.
Poison Ivy has been introduced as the “Spring Event”. Go to Gotham, breed her plants, and in return she offers a new style set (Plant Warrior) which looks pretty cool compared to the original plant style set.
The most important additions to DCUO are the following:
- You can now buy Tier armor from any faction! This means that if you originally have Circe as you mentor (and you really didn’t dig the Iconic Battle Suit style that the Magic Tier set pieces offer) and what you really wanted is that cool looking Iconic Battle Suit from Mr. Freeze, you can now buy it from Mr. Freeze. That is a great addition to this update.
- You can now delete those Facebook trinkets that were offered a few months a ago as a promotion to DCUO. Even though they are useful at the beginning, at my current level they were just taking up inventory space, so bye-bye useless trinkets.
There is a downside to this Update…
Freezing has become a big issue with “Update 3”. I haven’t had to deal with freezing since probably mid-Febuary when they introduced their first update. The development team is aware of this technical issue, and they are still trying to get it under control. For now my advice is to turn your effects quality down to a bare minimum. Freezing happens when the PS3 looks for RAM to process all the different effects and processes that are happening on DCUO, but it ends up with an internal error of insufficient memory. Developers are trying to fix and balance RAM processes in the DCUO world, especially in Raids, Duos, and Alerts. Keeping your effects down should control the insufficient memory freeze, but it will not stop this issue from happening.
